Recurrent youtube footage has made RAUH-Welt Begriff an internet sensation and Japanese owner Akira Nakai an automotive legend. Refusing to follow the trend set by tuning companies across the globe, Nakai’s work focuses principally on aesthetic re-design, with engine tweaks and performance upgrades taking a backseat. RAUH-Welt 911s are now a common sight on both the street and race circuits in Japan. The business – established to give ageing Porsches a new lease of life – is not a mass production operation, however. Only a handful are completed each year, with Nakai incredibly undertaking the work alone.
His latest project – a first in the Middle East – is the 993 you see here, preparation of which will be overseen by UAE-based GulfSport Racing. Dubbed a ‘voyage of discovery’ by the outfit – who predominantly specialize in motorsport engineering – GulfSport are optimistic the finished RWB product will encourage new regional business.
Heading up RAUH-Welt Begriff UAE is Zafer Taher, who first became aware of the company via crankandpiston and our friends at Speedhunters. Driven by his own passion for classic cars, no long-term business plans have been outlined. As well as testing the proverbial waters, the conglomerate hopes to bring a sense of nostalgia and identity to a region already rich with high-end supercars. Each finished RWB car, for example, receives its own name upon completion.
As you can see from these pictures, there is still a lot of work to be done before Nakai’s arrival in late February. We’ll be sure to keep you abreast of developments as they land at our door >>>

I hope to god Nakai-san does something about all that hideous wood.
