Before the good stuff gets underway – namely the driving of Porsches and whooping like children – we’re introduced to the club committee, instructors and sponsors, and everyone getting a thorough drivers briefing.
Almost 80 Porsches are lined up in the garages waiting for the green light…and for me to let them go and play.
Novice groups one and two were first out on-track for the first of their two one-hour sessions. They did, after all, have the full Formula One GP circuit to learn, and several hours on the couch on Sundays only gets the job half done.
And then the rain! What started as a drop turned into a severe downpour, but it didn’t dampen spirits(!) In fact, the idea of driving the Yas Marina Circuit in the wet seemed to get everyone more excited, and thus we continued with the schedule with only minimal delays. The downpour lasted 20 minutes and only caused one brief red flag moment to allow a section of the track to dry out a bit.
Midnight came and the final chequered flag of the night was waved. Some things may have been awash, but the spirit of the night certainly was not. And so another great Porsche Club UAE event drew to a close.
For those of us staying the night at the hotel, it was back to the bar to do another important part of the club events – socialising.
