Further back, the second Saudi Falcons entry – driven by team magnate Faisal Binladen – managed to get some points on the board following a solid seventh in race one. Fifth place left him a little shy of his podium aspirations, but a late race scrap with the second Al Nabooda Racing entry of Al-Azhari proved there is plenty of oomph left in the Falcons tank.
Al-Azhari, who like in the opening race found himself in the wars, took fourth-place finish to accompany his third place in race one. But must surely be hoping for some clean air in front of him at Yas Marina in three weeks time.
Zaid Ashkanani followed up his fifth place in race one with a sixth in race two for Team BuzaidGT, while Christina Nielsen – the only female competitor in the series in Bahrain – took the chequered flag in eighth (two places lower than she’d managed in the opening event) to round out a solid weekend. The second Team Bahrain entry of Mohammed Matar was sandwiched between them in seventh.
Up front though, there was little else to say about Clemens Schmid as he collected his second winner’s trophy of the weekend. The gauntlet had been thrown down abruptly.
