Whether or not the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix goes ahead is still a hot topic. Political ramifications aside, the criticism that’s been levied against the event by sporting (and even governmental figures) makes one wonder how the F1 circus will fare if it does roll back into Sakhir.

Still, we’ve found two reasons that make the journey worthwhile.

The first is this Porsche 935 from 1978, dubbed ‘Moby Dick’ for its white colour and elongated aerodynamics. A track version of the-then 911 turbo, the 935’s six-cylinder boxer engine only ran out of puff at 366kmh, making it a strong Le Mans 24Hr contender. Ironically, engine problems before the green flag doomed it to an 8^th-place finish.

This second model – the Porsche 911 GT1 from 1998 – fared better than its elder counterpart, placing both first and second at that year’s Le Sarthe outing. It’s mid-mounted twin turbo-charged engine and homologated development though still rankles with some 911 purists.
