Porsche LMP1 prototype breaks cover ahead of official return to the Le Mans 24 Hours next year.
[Not a valid template]Test Day has only just been completed ahead of the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans, though Porsche is already keen to rain of Audi’s 1-2-3 parade. Images of the new LMP1 prototype have been shot testing ahead of the marque’s return to Le Mans in 2014.
Naturally, Porsche are remaining pretty tight-lipped on details surrounding the new prototype, confirming only that ‘Mission 2014’ will be run out of the company’s Weissach Research Centre in Stuttgart. Company honours at Le Mans in 2013 rest on the shoulder of Porsche AG Team Manthey, who this year run two 911 RSRs in the LM GTE Pro category.

The heritage kicks off with the first outright victory in 1970, with Hans Hermann and Richard Attwood claiming victory in the Porsche Austria 917 Long Tail. Martini Racing, Helmut Marko and Gijs van Lennop took the double in 1971, once again in the 917.
Such was the dominance of the outfit that between 1976 and 1987, Porsche was defeated only twice at La Sarthe, Silk Cut Jaguar, Jan Lammers, Johnny Dumfries, and Andy Wallace finally ending the eight-year long streak in 1988 with the XJR.
