Taking a well-earned rest from the hustle and bustle indoors – and taking the opportunity to slam the third Red Bull of the day – the crankandpiston camera lens was soon focused on the Nissan activity arena, where fans of the marque were invited to take on an assault course aboard the new-for-2014MY Patrol. Punters had plenty to entertain themselves with on the company’s main stand indoors.
The new Mazda6 – which crankandpiston.com spent some time with in June – proved a popular addition for the Japanese marque in Dubai…
…while the RCZ sportscar – which from 2014 will boast from 264hp – drew the crowds on Peugeot’s stand.
Perhaps the biggest eye opener in hall 3 however, aside from this (cover your corneas) shock pink Kia Cerato…
…was a special edition Kia Cadenza, finished in snake skin. No, we’re not kidding, and no, we’ve no idea how many snakes it takes to wrap a mid-size Korean saloon.
From one mini-Godzilla to another, the Dubai Police force had its brand new 12-supercar strong Z-car fleet on display, pride of which was this Nissan GT-R. Also on display –bedecked in Dubai police colours – was an Audi R8, a Ferrari FF, a Bentley Continental GT, an Aston Martin One-77, a Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG…
…and a brand new Mercedes-Benz GL Class, prepared by BRABUS, shot just outside the Meydan Hotel, and new favourite of Dubai’s police commander-in-chief.
Speaking of BRABUS, the tuning company’s biggest draw – quite literally – was the B63S 700 6 x 6. Based on Mercedes-Benz’ six-wheeled G63 AMG, BRABUS’ model boasts a 5.5-litre bi-turbo V8 that chucks out 700hp, and is capable of sprinting from 0-100kph in just 7.4 seconds, despite weighing four tonnes. Yes, this behemoth hits 100kph at roughly the same time as a Volkswagen Golf, despite standing nearly eight feet tall on massive 37-inch wheels.
Size came into its own on other stands as crankandpiston moved its way through the second hall. This stretch limo for example from the Great Wall made us wonder how bachelorette parties should really be done…
…whilst this rather-too-similar-to-a-Hummer-H1-to-be-coincidence Warrior took the baton for South African company DFM. Piaggio on the other side of the hall, however, exemplified the other side of the scale with this three-wheeled pick-up.
