Renault has updated its Megane range with an all-new Renaultsport 275 Cup-S variant.
[Not a valid template]On sale now, from $36,648, the 275 Cup-S features a Renaultsport-developed 2.0-litre turbocharged unit linked to a six-speed manual gearbox, which in normal model develops 247bhp at 5,500rpm, but using its dynamic management system can be increased to 271bhp.
There are three modes available in the management system, which are all linked to the electronic stability control (ESC) technology, normal mode has standard throttle mapping with the ESC fully on. Sport mode raises the power to 271bhp and has sport throttle mapping and later ESC intervention. Race mode in the Renault also delivers 271bhp with sport throttle mapping, but switches off the ESC completely.
A maximum torque of 266ft lb is available from 3,000 to 5,000rpm, and it has a 0-100kph of 6.0 seconds, with a top speed of 254kph.
The model has Ohlins Road & Track adjustable dampers, which allow drivers to tailor damper settings to road conditions. These dampers are fitted with a progressive damping system, which adds additional damping at the end of the compression, when the car brakes hard or hits a bump.
The exterior includes Renaultsport F1-style front blade and rear diffuser with gloss black sections and a Renaultsport extended rear spoiler, all of which improve aerodynamic performance and increase downforce, and an Akrapovic lightweight titanium exhaust system. As well as matte black 18-inch ‘Tibor’ alloys (19-inch available as an option).
Inside sees Renaultsport seats, analogue rev counter and speedometer, drilled aluminium pedals, a leather Renaultsport steering wheel, and cruise control.
The cup chassis pack is also included with mechanical limited-slip differential, Brembo four-pot brake calipers painted red, firmer springs and dampers and a stiffer anti-roll bar.
The Megane Renaultsport line-up also sees another new version – the 275 Nav – that replaces the outgoing 265, with an addition 10bhp.
