“I’m the technical director for Schubert Motorsport and I look after all activities during the race for them.
“The relationship with the Saudi Falcons was initiated back in 2007 when we first met Abdulaziz through the Formula BMW school in Bahrain. He then came to German and tested for the first time in Europe, and in 2008 we came to the Dubai 24 Hours with a BMW 120D. Abdulaziz finished on the podium with a good performance and we started keeping up a relationship with him. We ran every year in Dubai and finished second and third in 2009 and 2010 with Abdulaziz in the team.
“Then in 2011 we used the GT3 Z4 with Team Need for Speed and managed to win. At the same time, the Saudi Falcons were there with their Porsche, and I met Faisal Binladen for the first time. He was very interested in the Z4 and we made it happen.
“During the race I make sure that the cars are running and overlook all the things that are going on, checking strategy and even monitoring weather conditions. I also prepare all te drivers and convey information to them. Basically, I’m the boss of everything to do with the track!”

“I’m responsible for the kitchen. I have a team of two and we’re looking after 50 people and three meals each a day, so it’s hard work! We have to buy food and prepare the meals.
“My background is in toolmaking. I studied engineering design, but now I engineer the food! I’m suited to this job because it’s easy for me to handle difficult situations, I have a talent for organisation.
“We bring all the kitchen equipment with us and I start planning for this race around six weeks in advance. I make my lists, make sure I have all the drivers’ preferences and prepare everything. The most important thing is to buy the foods fresh, find out where we can do it. I look at the supermarkets and logistics systems in the towns we race in. Most days we’re shopping twice a day during the race as we need a lot of fresh fruit and juice and pasta.
“The kitchen is open all the time. It’s not all about just the food, eating is a social thing as well for the team and it’s very important. I am the social focus of the team!”
