It’s McLaren vs McLaren on-track with EVO Magazine, as the P1 GTR takes on the 675LT in a single lap shootout. But how much faster is Woking’s headline track weapon over the company’s most aggressive road-going supercar?
McLaren | Engine | Power | Torque | 0-100kph | Top speed | Weight | Basic price |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
P1 GTR | V8, twin-turbo, 3799cc (plus 147kW electric motor) | 986bhp (combined) @ n/a rpm | 900Nm (664lbft combined) @ n/a rpm | 3.0 secs | 330kph+ | 1475kg (428bhp/ton) | $288,790 |
675LT | V8, twin-turbo, 3799cc | 666bhp @ 7100rpm | 700Nm (516lb ft) @ 5500-6500rpm | 2.9 secs | 330kph | 1230kg (541bhp/ton) | $393,500 |

Throughout the opening months of 2017, EVO Magazine in the UK has been pitting one performance weapon against another in a hot lap shootout, the Ferrari 488 GTB vs 458 Speciale, and BAC Mono 2.5 vs Radical RXC Turbo 500 being two pretty stellar examples.
The team’s latest shootout though poses a different question: just how much faster is McLaren’s most aggressively track-focused model – the P1 GTR – around a single lap against the company’s most scintillating road-going model, the 675LT?
It’s an intriguing question, isn’t it? After all, the (hybrid) 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 in the P1 GTR produces 986bhp, 83bhp more than its road-going equivalent and a full Nissan 370Z more than the 666bhp 675LT (more links available HERE). Similarly, Woking’s track-based hypercar hits 100kph from standstill in 2.4 seconds, half a second faster than the 675LT. On numbers alone, and bearing in-mind the P1 GTR’s power-to-weight ratio is more than 150bhp/ton higher than the relatively slender 1230kg 675LT, the GTR successor should walk it.
Then there’s the question of aerodynamics, McLaren honing the rear wing, front splitter and rear diffuser, widening the track, and basically making the carbon fibre aero kit as ‘holy crap’ as it could make it, extra sticky Pirellis ensuring greater turn-in speed alongside reduced drag and improved downforce. The 675LT is no slouch through the corners – we can assure you through first-hand knowledge – but even McLaren’s mightiest road model is left swinging for the fences by comparison.
So, the quite literal million-dollar question: just how much faster IS the $2.5 million P1 GTR around a single lap than the $393K 675LT? The answer may surprise you…
