The banked, bumpy section of track is named after the legendary driver Rudolf Caracciola, who was renowned for hooking his inside wheels into a drainage off the track to whip him around the tight left-hander more quickly. So many people did the same that the corner was eroded and more concrete exposed. Eventually, when the track was refurbed the corner was rebuilt with proper banking to keep the flavour of the bend.
