Sometimes petrol head culture knocks you for six. There I was, sitting by the side of the road enjoying my holiday in Koh Samui Thailand, when this utterly stunning BSA Motorcycle popped into view. For starters, the Island is over run with Scooters, so seeing something other than a 125cc scoot is a rarity, but having something as iconic and truly awesome as a 1940’s BSA come trundling past you isn’t an every day occurrence.

BSA Motorcycles was a subsidiary of the Birmingham Small Arms Company and came into being during the early 1900’s. As far as I can work out, this particular bike is an M20, which initially was viewed as a near failure by the War Office in 1936. The M20 then evolved into one of the longest serving motorcycles in the history of British military motorcycling, as well as becoming the most popular bike produced during World War II with a rather massive 126,000 units built.
