This has to catch your attention. Between a bunch of us, we’ve been talking about hosting a Soapbox Derby race in the UAE for longer than we care to admit. A sport that has been around for decades, is full of thrills, spills, genius engineering and laughs all round. Using standard wheels and a couple of other off the shelve items, these gravity powered racers can hit speeds of up to 60kph. With competitors split by thousandths of a second, it’s budget racing at it’s best.
Although restricted by a number of factors, the creators of these little racers stretch the envelope when it comes to the visuals of their weapons. Take this cheeky little number for example. Created by the team at Five:Axis (the team behind many awesome Toyota/Lexus/Scion concept cars) along with Import Tuner magazine and Design Craft it was put together to compete in the 2011 Red Bull Soapbox Race in Los Angeles. It certainly ticks the box in terms of awesomeness!
Now, who really wants to help organise a soapbox race?
