McLaren reveals image of new BP23 Hyper-GT, ‘the most powerful and most aerodynamic road-going McLaren ever produced’ that’s set to go on-sale in 2019
Woking hypercar fans with deep pockets will be pleased to hear that the company’s new ‘Hyper-GT’ will go on sale in 2019, and is set to become ‘the most powerful and most aerodynamic road-going McLaren ever produced’.
The new hypercar, codenamed BP23, is being marketed as the spiritual successor to the legendary F1, and is set to house three seats like its illustrious forebear. So far the teaser sketch McLaren has released shows that the slick, sculpted bodywork will come packaged with a very aggressive rear diffuser and thin LED taillights, but no rear wing oddly. Also expect those massive rear wheels to be ratcheted down a notch or two on the production model. Expect dihedral doors too, plus a body created from shrink-wrapped
Details of the powertrain meanwhile remain a mystery, although it’s expected the new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 that was just slotted into the McLaren 720S will play a role, coupled with an electric motor a la the P1. Just, for the love of God McLaren, skip the Honda engine…
All 106 confirmed examples of the BP23 Hyper-GT – or Bespoke Project 23 – will be produced by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), the wizards behind the one-off X-1 from 2012.
