TEASER. Sheene movie. Legend of the motorcycle legend

New TEASER TRAILER drops for Sheene, the feature-length biopic of two-time Motorcycle World Champion Barry Sheene set for release in 2017.

Chances are the bike fanatics amongst you will already have seen the trailer for Sheene, a feature-length motorsport biopic akin to ‘’ and ‘Rush’ charting the life and career of two-time 500cc World Champion Barry Sheene. Based on the book ‘Barry: The story of motorcycling legend Barry Sheene’ by racing contemporaries Steve Parrish & Nick Harris, Sheene is set for a 2017 release date, is being helmed by Will Stoppard – son of accomplished playwright Tom – and will boast a script penned by Ian La Frenais and Dick Clement. Fans of Auf Wiedersehn Pet and Porridge won’t need to be reminded of their celebrated works.

Now, a brand new teaser trailer has landed for Sheene, in which contemporaries, family and fans alike express their thoughts and admiration for Britain’s last 500cc world champion, who tragically passed away in 2003 after his struggles with cancer.

It is a wonder though how Messers La Frenais and Clement will be able to crush Sheene’s spotlight career into a 90-plus minutes biopic. After his first taste of 500cc victory at the Dutch TT in 1975 (his first of 19), the Brit would not only win back-to-back championship in 1976 and 1977, but would also champion safety innovations for both the sport at large and the riders themselves during a time when death and motorsport went hand-in-hand.

Then there’s Sheene’s legendary rivalry with three-time champion Kenny Roberts, at times brutal, but a rivalry that brought out the best of both competitors: “if there hadn’t been a Barry Sheene, there wouldn’t have been a Kenny Roberts”, says the man himself, and few would argue that when re-watching the pair’s epic race at Silverstone in 1979 (you can check that out below).

Perhaps more poignantly, there are the two monstrous shunts that bookended Sheene’s 500cc career. One – Daytona 1975 – that thrust him into the public eye and created an interest in motorcycle racing the likes of which had never been seen before. The other – Silverstone 1982 – that ended his ’82 championship run and from which he never fully recovered. It says a lot that the latest Teaser Trailer was posted 30 years to the day of the British icon’s Silverstone shunt.

Oh, and in-between that, there’s the Playboy lifestyle that made Sheene a household name, a God among men, and star of a God-awful Brut advert alongside Henry Cooper. Mark my words, Sheene, really will be something else.
