It’s arguably in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters that the ‘race on Sunday, sell on Monday’ ethos has so comprehensively been abandoned in touring car circles. Though that’s not to say that during its height in the mid-1990s the series didn’t leave a few classics embedded on the collective petrolhead psyche. The Mercedes-Benz 190E for instance, as well as being able to rattle fillings from your skull with the bellow from the exhausts, was something of a demon on-track as Klaus Ludwig demonstrated with runs to the ’92 and ’94 titles. Tides would eventually change as the growling Merc gave way to the new C-Class for 1996.
