An invitation to an award ceremony at a posh location was my next excuse. I needed something with a little presence and refinement and the G37S ticked all the boxes. It also happened to be the Drift UAE Awards, so I dutifully explained that to roll up in anything less than a front-engined, rear-wheel drive Japanese car would be a faux pas. Common sense prevailed, permission was granted and crankandpiston even picked up an award on the night. Hurrah!

There is another, more practical reason for my clinginess though. The G37S is the first car in recent memory that I have spent some time with that persuades me to take the long way home. It may eat up the highway kilometres like a luxury coupé, but it comes alive in the corners. I just wish Dubai had more corners!

The steering is weighty and precise but where the G37S truly excels is in its ability to communicate where the edge of grip lies. This leaves you with two interesting options. Option one is to reign in that power and maintain traction, thus ensuring the safest and fastest way around a corner. Option two should only be performed on a closed road or racetrack, and by a certified professional!
As a luxury sports coupé it tackled the daily commute with ease. Rock FM blaring out of the superb Bose stereo kept my senses sharp for the inevitable random lane change of Dubai‘s finest taxis and even alerted me to their presence with its proximity warning system.
