So, welcome to my fresh recruit – a Tornado Red GTI. The thing I love about the GTI is that the designers steered clear of going down the aggressive look. Yes, there are a couple of tailpipes hanging either side of the rear bumper, but all in all it’s a classy and simple design.

I made a conscious call very early on that leather wouldn’t be on the agenda, so opted instead for the gorgeous ‘Interlagos’ trimmed seats. I’ve already been accused of having pyjama seat covers, but I love them. Seeing as I’ll be looking at the interior for most of the time, buying a car with great quality plastics, materials and more importantly steering wheel was paramount. This car reeks of value for money.

The mk6 GTI has so far exceeded expectations and after a boring and frustrating run-in period, I am now opening the taps at every given opportunity.
