While you pick yourselves up off the floor or stop hyperventilating, let me explain. Firstly, it’s a Lexus. And if our recent experience with the GS350 is anything to go by (more of which to come), then crankandpiston’s new CT200h could yet pull some surprises from its green sleeves.

Secondly, there’s the looks. The angles may not be quite as sharp nay ripped as some of the more fiery examples from the bloodline have showcased, but there’s certainly enough oomph about the chistled jaw and shoulders to make one stop in his/her tracks. With suitably dark alloys for bling, we think it looks pretty awesome.

The new arrival also throws some unexpected challenges our way. Frugal motoring hitherto may not have been the crankandpiston way – if you don’t count the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 and Tesla Roadster – but we’re all curiously intrigued to see how long we can make the final quarter of a tank last if we thump the go-faster pedal a little more gently.

What speed can we get up to before EV kicks the drive back to the engine? And how long will it take before we stop asking “is it on?” when pressing the stop/start button?
