A new super-hard watch from Mercedes and IWC.
[Not a valid template]Mercedes and Swiss watchmaker IWC Schaffhausen have been commercial partners for a decade now, so to mark the occasion the two firms have worked together to produce a new, very fancy watch.
The AMG GT edition of the Ingenieur Automatic is the world’s first watch to feature a case made of pure boron carbide – the same material used to make tank armour. Yeah, it’s pretty strong.
Just 25 of the new watches have been made, paying tribute to the new Mercedes–AMG GT through the design. The black is accented with yellow design features, while the rubber strap has yellow stitching and a black inlay of the same microfibre material found on the steering wheel, seats and roof lining of the GT.
The watch was unveiled at the Goodwood circuit in the UK, where at the same time – just for a laugh – Mercedes put the AMG GT in the hands of Karl Wendlinger up against the Mercedes F1 W04 piloted by Anthony Davidson and the very first AMG racing car – the AMG 300 SEL 6.8 – driven by ex-F1 driver Jochen Mass. All three crossed the finish line at the same time. Wow, what a coincidence…
