THROWBACK THURSDAY. That time Nissan set Nurburgring record with a GT-R

THROWBACK THURSDAY. As Nissan prepares for its upcoming Nürburgring assault – the 24 Hours endurance event this weekend – we take a look back to that time in 2013 it rocked the Green Hell

As Nissan prepares for this weekend’s 24H Nürburgring, we thought we’d throwback to when Michael Krumm set an incredible 7m 8.679s lap at the track, back in 2013.

Nissan more recently (back at the 2016 New York Motor Show) showcased a new facelift for the R35 model, which is set to arrive in showrooms next year. Design changes include new air vents and wider sills to the rear and sides, new suspension, a stiffer bodyshell and a new design of 20-inch alloy wheel. Its 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V6 now produces 562bhp and 470lb ft of torque thanks to a retune and new ignition timing. It’s still mated to a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, plus new paddles to a newly designed steering wheel.

Michael set the record three years ago, for the fastest ever volume production car lap, aboard a road-going Nissan GT-R – we wonder how long it’ll be until we see the facelift donning the famous German track in an attempt to beat that record…
