XCAR takes the TMG-developed TS-650 for a spin on-track, and explains why Lexus may finally have a rival for Mercedes-Benz AMG.
Two things are certain about this mornings video on crankandpiston. Somewhere our in-house JDM specialist James Davison is grinding his teeth at this introduction and cursing my name for missing ‘vital details’. And when the guys at XCARFilms suggest the new TS-650 is Lexus’ answer to the Mercedes-Benz AMG range, they may have a point.
For several decades, Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) has headlined Toyota’s various motor racing campaigns across the globe, from Formula 1 through the World Rally Championship and the World Endurance Championship. Now the track specialist has teamed up with sister company Lexus to create the LS 460-based TS-650, a cruise missile with a 641hp twin-turbo V8 under the bonnet.
Snarls, growls, brakes from the Lexus LFA, bigger tyres and a more aggressive body announce TMG’s latest project in shouty style. Time to start getting worried, AMG?
