4. Volkswagen Beetle
[Not a valid template]We’re actually surprised that the Volkswagen Beetle isn’t higher up the list, but with 23.5 million sales since 1938, it’s not done too badly for itself. The origins of the Beetle, amid Germany’s darkest pre-WWII days, are well documented, but since then the Beetle has become a genuine cultural icon. The original car was built until 2003 and sold more than 21.5 million. VW launched the New Beetle in 1997, which was replaced in 2011. The original’s still the coolest though.
