McLaren does DIY (2011)
The McLaren MP4-26 of 2011 was launched in Berlin’s Potsdamer Platz, but it was a very low-key start to the event. In front of slightly bemused onlookers, a bare chassis was wheeled out by some mechanics, followed by a stream of personnel that gradually added components bit-by-bit. Eventually drivers Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button turned up with the steering wheel and cockpit head protection to finish the car off, and everyone applauded politely. The car turned out to be a good one, taking Jenson to second in the driver’s championship with Hamilton to fifth, but it finished second in the constructors’ title to the dominant Red Bull Racing.
