7. USA 1990 – Ayrton Senna meets Jean Alesi
Phoenix, Arizona won’t go down as one of Formula 1’s classic circuits, but for the first race of 1990 it served up a classic between Ayrton Senna’s McLaren and Jean Alesi’s Tyrell. Alesi had a tremendous start from fourth and nipped into the lead at the first corner. As rivals dropped out, Senna charged through and overtook the young Frenchman, but was staggered to see Alesi retake the place at the next corner. Senna eventually managed to pass and stay ahead, but everyone was talking about Alesi after the race.
