8. Australia 1996 – So close for rookie Villeneuve
After narrowly missing out on the title in 1995, Damon Hill had a new Williams teammate in Jacques Villeneuve, and the Canadian dazzled on his debut, putting his car on pole position. In a race that began with a spectacular crash for Martin Brundle. Villeneuve lead for most of the race despite a frenzied challenge from Hill, but a dream debut was denied him when an oil leak allowed Hill to pass and take the win. Hill would take the title that year, but Villeneuve would secure top spot for Williams in 1997.
