Sauber C9
Any fans of World Sportscar Championship will know the significance of the Sauber C9. Complete with light alloy monocoque, double wishbone, a 5-litre turbocharged V8 and a 398kph top speed (so says the Mulsanne Straight record), the prototype won all but seven of its 21 race starts, took seven pole positions, and walked the 1989 championship – its final season of competition – against the Porsche 962C and the Jaguar XJR-9. Granted, by comparison, the Saleem special may seem a little understated. But we’d kill to see this in action on-track.
