9) It inspired great cars from other rivals
So dominant was the Alpine A110 in a rallying during the 1970s that its rivals had to pull out all the stops to beat it. Lancia had reigned supreme in 1972, but then the A110 made the Italian firm realise that it needed to bring out something new to retain the top spot. The result? The Lancia Stratos, which built on the revolution started by the A110, and promptly dominated the WRC to win in 1974, 1975 and 1976. With the Stratos now surely among the most legendary rally cars ever created, it’s only proper to thank Alpine for the prompt to build it.
