4. Stop thief! – NASCAR, Talladega, 1986
The 1986 Winston 500 was notable less for racing and more for the actions of one Darren Charles Crowder. The 20-year-old, somewhat under the influence, managed to steal the Pontiac pace car for the event and complete two full laps of Talledega Speedway in Alabama before he was apprehended by the police after marshals used their own vehicles to block the track. The 125,000-strong crowd were most amused, even if the cops and officials were not.
