Also finding himself watching from the sidelines was Steve Adams, whose car decided to unleash a litany of mysterious mechanical clunkings, forcing Steve to push his beast back into the pits as the race itself began.

This left us with a Porsche/Ginetta/Aston battle to watch (which is nothing to complain about really).

Harris Irfan managed to get his ARM GT3 RS away very cleanly from the start in P1 and ran comfortably clear of the Ginetta with yet another flawless drive until, of all things, running out of fuel near the very end, Allowing the well poised and ever steady (not to mention oddly sexually arousing) Ginetta to snatch P1 at the last minute.

Quite interestingly, the DXB Racing Aston Martin, with Mr.Happiest Man on the Grid John Simmonds at the wheel, showed some amazing pace throughout the entire race, running consistently on par with the GTB cars in spite of the Aston officially being a GTC entrant. With a few little tweaks and the willpower to do the tweaking, this author thinks that the DXB Racing Aston could potentially be a very strong GTB contender indeed as it ran flawlessly from flag to flag, even if it did so just out of striking distance from Gulf Sport’s Ginetta and Harris’s Porsche.

Honorable mention to Will Dew’s BMW as well, a privateer entry which again ran flawlessly from beginning to end; no mean feat when you look at the gremlins that seem to enjoy affecting the heavy hitters in the game.

There’s always a next time though, and inevitably we’ll be seeing both Steve Adams and Frederic’s DXB Racing Evo X in the mix again, who will doubtlessly have a thing or two to say about the GTB finishing order. There’s also a few more potential new entrants in the wings in the form of a few race prepared Lotus Exiges lurking in the shadows of few local garages.

Judging by the number of paragraphs I’ve just cranked out there’s plenty going on and plenty to look forward to in GT racing this season. We’re already off to a good start, have seen some great cars and great drives, and there’s plenty of new surprises yet to come. Keep you eyes peeled, or if you’re too lazy to do that then just stay tuned here for more and more auto racing goodness from the UAE’s National Racing series.
