On an extremely hot and humid Friday afternoon, the second outing of the Total UAE Touring Car Championship (races 3 and 4) got underway. However, the weekend would prove to be a bit of a struggle for some teams even before the qualifying session.

MSW’s Andre Ramdhanny was in fine form during the early test sessions, getting up to speed quickly and logging some solid times. However, sadly his stunning Seat would have a small incident early in the morning on race day.

Despite the team’s best efforts – and some serious work with a hammer and stellar work with the spanners – the Leon couldn’t be repaired in time for qualifying or the afternoon’s races. Let’s hope the guys can get the car back to original fitness in time for the next race – I’m sure there’ll be plenty of late nights fuelled by Lavazza coffee in the coming days!

Another car that failed to make the race was Jeff Curtis’ TAM-prepped Seat. Jeff crashed out in a similar fashion to Andre, but did it during the final session of testing on Thursday.

Ramzi Moutran and Frederic Gaillard were battling nose-to-tail in both races, with each driver taking a victory over the other in the afternoon’s proceedings. Fred’s exuberance in the Touring Cars would cost him dearly in the GTs later in the day as he had to pull out of the hour-long race due to exhaustion.

Ramzi was also due to put himself through the “Three” race pain, however the teams GTC Seat Leon still had a couple of new build niggles and the decision was made not to run the car.

Mike Scott from Gulf Sport was out on track for the first time this season, but unfortunately an electrical problem saw him park up at the start of the main straight in the second race of the day.

Two DNFs from Jason O’Keefe wasn’t exactly the plan for the weekend, so we hope the a2b boys can get the Civic back to rude health soon. UPDATE: Upon re-reading the results, Jason actually finished fourth in class in race 1, but suffered a DNF in Race 2. Apologies for the confusion Jason and all the best for the next round!

The big man, Mr Mulabegovic, was out in his ever evolving Honda Integra, after technical difficulties put pay to his Rd1 attempts. A solid performance was the order of the day, aswell as a lost rear window. Rather bizarrely Zlatco didn’t even realise he had lost it, saying “I only noticed it had gone after returning to the pits!”

…While all the action was happening, Phil was enjoying his time with the KTM 525 XC. As you can imagine it proved to be the perfect way to get around the track for light capturing duties. The record for getting from the grid down to the outside of Turn 1 currently stands at 4 minutes, so I’ll be seeing if I can improve on that next raceday on November 5th.
