Classic Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV is a star on-track and in the latest episode of CarTorqueTV
“I must be crazy, what am I doing here?”
Alfa purists may wonder what 1750 GTV owner Colin Wilson-Brown is talking about, particularly since – having bought the last sixties style icon from Canberra and stripped it back to the chassis – Colin rebuilt the coupe from scratch. Complete with original parts of course. Under the bonnet of the short wheelbase model for instance is a 1.8-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder, mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Around 120bhp of that furious power is sent to new, lightweight wheels and performance tyres, perfect for a day at the track. And thanks to Group S regulations when Colin competes, the interior of the 1750 remains unchanged, barring the loss of the floor mats and the transmission tunnel cover.
So, why the opening quote? What worries does Colin have when the 1750 GTV hits the track? Well, as the man himself says, “it’s had every corner dented at some point, and you can’t go racing without that happening at some point”.
When we’re dealing with a classic Alfa Romeo, you can rather see his point…
