The next Mercedes-Benz E-Class lets you park the car using a smartphone app. THE FUTURE IS HERE.
Who remembers entirely mediocre James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies? The best scene in the film features Bond using a very early smartphone to drive his BMW while bad guys fire a multitude of bullets at him. At the time, we all thought it was hilarious science fiction. But now it’s real. Sort of.
Mercedes-Benz has released a video showing a feature that will be on the 2017 E-Class. Remote Parking Pilot gives you the option to park your car remotely, via smartphone. Why would you need to do such a thing? Well, A) because technology, but B) because it suddenly allows you to use much narrower parking spaces, without the need for door-opening space. If you can get out and close the doors before you park, then all you need is a space big enough for the car itself.
Ok, it’s not exactly driving off buildings and outfoxing gunmen, but still. It’s pretty freaking cool.
