Red Bull Racing and former Formula 1 driver David Coulthard tread on Matt Damon and Indiana Jones’ former stomping ground

A Formula 1 racing car in the desert is not that unusual, given that Abu Dhabi and Bahrain have been on the F1 calendar since 2006 and 2009 respectively, and rumours still abound that Qatar – clearly bored with their MotoGP commitments and that pesky World Cup organisation – is still keen to host a Grand Prix.

Even still, Red Bull (shock, horror) may have taken things to another extreme with the release of its latest video, which stars 13-time Grand Prix winner David Coulthard and most of the Wadi Rum desert. We’ve often wondered just how durable the 2011 championship-winning RB7 might be, but even after Max Verstappen took the Italian Raging Stallion for a spin on an Austrian ski slope, even we thought the sight of an F1 car on the sand might not happen.

If the setting of The Martian wasn’t enough, BBC commentator DC also took time out to visit Petra, where Harrison Ford and Sean Connery convened in 1989 to search for the help of the Holy Grail with the help of Julian Glover and Steven Spielberg. We know, we know, DC chose wisely
