Ever fancied watching a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 roar around the Nürburgring. Of course you have…
The Green Hell has been pretty busy as of late, with the 1341bhp Koenigsegg One:1 undergoing testing ahead of a new Nürburgring lap record attempt by the Swedish manufacturer. Now Chevrolet is giving it a go, keen no doubt to draw attention away from that pesky Z28 crash at the same circuit a few weeks ago.
Not that there’s not enough to get excited about with the new ZL1 of course, full details of which were unveiled earlier in the year in New York. Powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 – the unmistakable roar of which in the below video really gets us going – the LT4-spec V8 produces 640hp and 868Nm (640lb ft) of torque, some 60hp and 114Nm (84lb ft) up on the outgoing model. From what we understand, the red example houses Chevy’s new 10-speed automatic we first tried in the new Camaro Six (which, intriguingly, the company claims will shift faster than Porsche’s dual clutch PDK), while the blue boasts the optional six-speed manual. Unlike the Z28 though, camouflage paint has been abandoned, meaning we also get a close up look of that ripped black bonnet bulge and rear spoiler.
So, who will be next to take on the Nürburgring’s sleepless car spotters? We’re looking at you Jaguar F-TYPE SVR…
