However, it does provide a little aural entertainment that is impossible to replicate in a car with three pedals. Every upchange is accompanied by a little burp of overrun emitted through the exhaust. If that doesn’t make sense, keep your ears peeled whenever you spot a TT, Golf, Leon or – yup, a Scirocco – out on the road and you’ll hear it.

As we have come to expect from ze Germans, the overall fit-and-finish is second-to-none. Couple this with a sharply designed cabin and exterior design, and the Scirocco is full of win.

But is it better than the GTI? Well, that is the 3.672Million Dirham question. The C&P loft is divided on the subject, but to help us decide the nice people at Volkswagen Middle East are provided us with a box-fresh Scirocco of our own to decide over the next few months.

I have wanted one since 2008.
I don’t need rear seats or the volume of a Golf.

@ Moe, I’d still go for the Scirocco R, its around 120Kg Lighter than the Golf R.
Moe
I’d trade the 120kg advantage and added sexyness for AWD.

Thats another way to look at it 😉

I’d only get the GTI if I needed the extra doors, which I don’t. The question of the Golf R vs the Scirocco R is a completely different one…

After being torn up between a GTI, RCZ and a cooper S, we finally got this for the wife last month.
And I’ll tell you, it’s better than its cousin the GTI in more than 1 way.
Most importantly, the styling. It’s got way more appeal than the former GTI, which looks (I’m sorry) but bland compared to the ‘Rocco.
The leather options available in the Scirocco are far superior too.
Add on the descending roofline to that list as well.
The only disadvantage I noticed as compared to the GTI was the claustrophobic feeling while sitting in the back seat, which was primarily due to the high head rests and the chopped out rear windows, and if you’re a big man above 6 feet tall, sitting at the back is almost impossible, also because of the descending roofline.
All in all, its a much sportier looking car, made for those who like the performance of the GTI but would rather go for something more nippy looking.
And oh, its real fun to drive this little baby! Do enjoy yourselves.
Cheers,
Hiten
