The Volvo V60 Polestar has been named as the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) safety car.
[Not a valid template]The Polestar edition Volvo V60 is the official safety car for this year’s FIA World Touring Car Championship, following the signing of a new three-year deal. I’ll give you a second to reminisce about the last time a Volvo station wagon was involved in touring cars…
Built by Volvo’s performance arm Polestar, the model produces 345bhp and 369lb ft of torque from the same 3-litre turbocharged straight-six found in the road-going S60, as well as an FIA-mandated roll cage and rescue communication tech. As a result, reports say that Volvo claims the high-performance V60 will be the world’s safest safety car.
It’s not just the safety car though that will feature the Volvo badge. The Polestar S60 TC1 will race in this year’s WTCC in partnership with Cyan Racing, preparation of which you can see in the below video. Both Volvo Polestar WTCC entries will make their respective 2016 debuts at Circuit Paul Ricard on April 1-3.
